2010 BMW 5 Series

The 2010 BMW 5 Series is due to hit the market early next year and these latest spy shots are a clear, if predictable, indication of what styling changes are on their way.

The front fascia adopts the upright nose, elongated twin-kidney grille and contoured headlamps (Dame Edna be gone!) originally shown on the 2009 7 Series, while the rear takes on a set of similarly styled tail lamps and looses the Bangled rump we've come to know and loathe.

The overall effect should tie in well with the recently revealed BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo, and expect similar powertrain options to be available, including the 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8, 3.0-liter inline-six and a host of diesel options offered abroad.

Transmission choices will likely include a six-speed manual and an all-new eight-speed gearbox supplied by ZF. And then there's the 2011 BMW M5 to look forward to.

Expect the next M-fettled 5er to pack the X6 M/X5 M's tweaked twin-turbo'd eight nestled within a revised chassis sure to use considerable amounts of aluminum and carbon fiber.



It's obvious that development of the next 5 is well underway, and we wouldn't be surprised to see it unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September, with the BMW M5 appearing later in 2010.

new 7 Series

Despite the fact the new 7 Series was launched at the beginning of the year, BMW is already set to expand the model range. Toward the end of this year, the new V12-powered 760i will arrive with a new eight-speed automatic transmission.

The better news, at least for us denizens of the Great White North, is the addition of BMW's sophisticated xDrive all-wheel-drive system to the 750i. This is a first for the 7 Series and something that's destined to become very popular because of the ability it adds to an already sure-footed sedan.


Under normal circumstances, xDrive splits the power 40/60 front to rear. The beauty is that because the system monitors a number of different sensors (steering angle, throttle position, yaw and so on) xDrive is proactive, which means it begins to redistribute power before the car loses traction. When travelling at speed, the system relaxes the power split (20/80 front to rear). Conversely, matting the gas sees the system lock the centre differential. This splits the power evenly front to rear and banishes unwanted wheelspin. The 750i's system is as seamless as it is proficient.



Naturally, there's a topflight electronic stability/ dynamic traction control system (DSC with DTC). This electronic overseer not only does the usual understeer/ oversteer correction in conjunction with xDrive (it alters the power split to compensate for any wayward tendencies), it also features something called Performance Control.

This safety extension uses the brakes to physically turn the vehicle into a corner. For example, if the driver encounters understeer in a left-hand bend, the system does two things --it applies the left rear brake, which turns the car into the corner, and it ramps up the power output to counter drag cause by the brake application. The system has three modes -- on, DTC mode and off. The last setting is all but redundant because the DTC mode is so good at what it does. In practice, it reduces the car's natural understeering tendency because it allows the back end to drift out a little before reining things in.

When it comes to the 750i xDrive's driving dynamics, they are superb. Unlike so many large cars, this one does not feel like a yacht. Credit the stiff chassis, dialled-in active suspension and Dynamic Drive Control.

There are four modes in all. Comfort and normal are self-explanatory. Moving to the sport mode does a number of things. As well as firming both compression and rebound damping, it remaps the transmission so each gear is held a little longer, and it sharpens throttle response. The neat part is the driver can customize the settings through the iDrive system. One can select the suspension and steering facets alone, just the power-train changes or both.

Beyond that is the Sport+ mode. It sharpens everything while cutting back the electronic stability control's intervention point. In this mode, the 7 Series feels surprisingly spry on its P245/45R19 front and P275/40R19 rear tires. Remember, this is a full-bodied and portly sedan that tips the scales at more than 2,100 kilograms.

The xDrive model features the same 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 as in the regular 750i. This motor is not only sublimely smooth, it packs a hellacious punch when the gas is nailed. The secret boils down to the turbochargers nestled in the vee between the banks. When they spool up to speed, which happens in a hurry, the engine produces 400 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque anywhere between 1,800 and 4,500 rpm, which allows the 7 to run to 100 kilometres an hour in approximately 5.5 seconds.

Pushing the new 750i xDrive around BMW's proving grounds in Miramas and through the foothills north of the facility proved the car's dynamic advantages go well beyond the ability to drive all four wheels. In normal mode, the 750i xDrive did understeer on the wet and slippery handling track. However, the softer suspension settings took the sting out of the rough roads encountered on the run through the hills -- this is the setup for someone who's had a long, hard day at the office.

Engaging the Sport+ mode significantly changed the car's driving characteristics. Relaxing the stability control's intervention point and reducing the amount of power going to the front wheels makes the all-wheel-drive 7 feel more like its rear-drive sibling. There was less understeer on the track and it pulled out of a hilly hairpin with more authority. When a spirited drive is the order of the day, this is the right mode.

Adding the ability of xDrive to the usual accoutrement that defines the 750i is a smart move because of the manner in which it all comes together. BMW expects 80% of 7 Series buyers to tick the all-wheel-drive option box when ordering their cars. I would if it was my money on the line.

BMW just announced that it plans to bring its X1,to the U.S. in 2011. But the biggest news about the compact crossover may be the clean-diesel powerplant option.

The diesel version of the X1 achieves more than 45 miles a gallon while still achieving a top speed of 124 miles per hour, BMW says.

In Europe, where the X1 goes on sale this fall, there will be three diesel versions in addition to the gasoline version. It's yet to be seen whether diesel catches on in the U.S. by then.



As of April, BMW officials had said they were disappointed clean-diesel sales were sluggish in the U.S. despite their efforts to promote the technology.


The X1 will come in both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive versions. No price yet.

fell less in June

Sales of Bayerische Motoren Werke AG’s BMW and Toyota Motor Corp.’s Lexus, the most popular U.S. luxury brands, fell less in June than the previous month as buyers began returning to showrooms.

U.S. sales totaled 16,744 for the BMW brand, a 20 percent drop from a year earlier, and better than the 28 percent decline in May, Munich-based BMW said. Lexus reported selling 16,874 vehicles, a slide of 17 percent, better than the previous month’s 36 percent fall.

Luxury sellers “are seeing a bottom, they think the worst has past,” said Milton Pedraza, chief executive officer of the Luxury Institute LLC, a New York-based consumer-research firm.

Lexus took the lead from BMW in June after the German automaker sold the most vehicles for three months straight. BMW held onto the top spot this year overall, selling 93,563 vehicles, compared to Lexus’s 90,060, challenging Lexus’s nine- year reign as the top seller of luxury autos in the U.S.

Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Benz brand sold 15,155 vehicles for the month, a 23 percent drop that was better than May’s 31 percent fall, Stuttgart, Germany-based Daimler said. The total including the Smart brand was down 26 percent to 16,271 vehicles, better than May’s 33 percent fall, the company said.

‘Still Underwater’

Nissan Motor Co.’s Infiniti sales for June were down 32 percent to 6,304 units, said U.S. Vice President Al Castignetti. That fall was better than May’s 38 percent fall for the Tokyo- based automaker. Honda Motor Co.’s Acura division fell 34 percent to 8,280 vehicles, compared to a 36 percent drop in the previous month for the Tokyo-based automaker’s luxury unit.

Not all luxury brands did better than May. Dearborn, Michigan-based Ford Motor Co.’s Lincoln luxury brand fell 27 percent to 7,137 vehicles, after reporting a 2.4 percent increase in the previous month. The drop was more than double Ford’s overall 11 percent fall.

Detroit-based General Motors Corp.’s luxury division, Cadillac, fell 41 percent to 8,473 vehicles, compared to a 40 percent drop in May, according to a statement.

Growth for luxury segments of the economy will “continue to be slow for the next 12 to 20 months,” said the Luxury Institute’s Pedraza. “People are feeling better, but many are still underwater as the last 12 months have been horrible.”

2009 Shanghai Auto Show: Porsche Panamera World Debut

Stuttgart. Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, presented the Panamera to the world public today at the 13th Auto Shanghai. Joining the 911, the Cayenne, and the Boxster/Cayman, this new four-door Gran Turismo is Porsche's fourth model series, with three variants entering the market in Germany on 12 September 2009.

The Panamera is making its debut as an eight-cylinder delivering 400 and, respectively, 500 horsepower and with both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive, a six-cylinder gasoline model and a hybrid version following later.

Klaus Berning, Executive Vice-President Sales and Marketing of Porsche AG, expressed a clear view at the world debut of the Panamera: "Introducing the Panamera, we are entering a market segment completely new for our customers and we are once again consistently expanding our model portfolio."

Through its design and looks alone, the Panamera clearly stands out from the competition at very first sight. Like no other car in its class, it offers a truly unique combination of sporting performance and luxurious comfort.

Despite its low and sleek silhouette so typical of Porsche, the Panamera, measuring 4.97 metres (195.7") in length but only 1.42 metres (55.9") in height, ensures a generous feeling of space on all four seats.

São Paulo, Brazil, Oct 28, 2008 - Chrysler LLC launches into a new segment in Latin America with the introduction of the new Trazo C1.8 by Dodge today at the São Paulo Motor Show.

Trazo C1.8 will be offered as a four-door sedan with exceptional value and fuel efficiency in Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay. The Trazo C1.8 will be built by Nissan Motor Co., providing Chrysler LLC a high-quality entry into these fast-growing markets.

The exterior of the Trazo C1.8 provides an athletic, yet modern design that is consistent with the rapidly growing Dodge brand. Trazo C1.8's maximized 102.4-inch (260-centimeter) wheelbase and short front- and rear-overhangs create perfect proportions for city streets, while expressively long rooflines highlight the comfortable and spacious interior.

Trazo C1.8's grille features intricate louvers that create a contemporary look while integrating the new Trazo emblem. Large halogen headlamps wrap around to front fenders and provide a striking appearance while improving illumination. These elements, combined with a sporty, integrated body-color front fascia, reinforce Trazo C1.8's youthful looks.

Trazo C1.8's side profile illustrates aerodynamic efficiency while highlighting generous passenger space within. A raked-back windshield improves Trazo C1.8's drag coefficient to a low 0.31 Cd while offering a higher roof height for passengers seated in the front and rear. Space utilization and high-quality interior materials provide Trazo C1.8 with a generously sized interior, rewarding its passenger with comfort and craftsmanship.

Utilizing its longer wheelbase, an interior length of more than two meters front to back makes Trazo C1.8 by Dodge roomy and provides the space needed for an active lifestyle. An up-right seat height position in both front and rear seats allows plenty of leg room.

Front-row seats are larger and more comfortable than most C-segment vehicles and deliver comfortable leg room at any position with little compromise to rear-seat passengers. The instrument panel of the Trazo C1.8 by Dodge duplicates the exterior's elegantly simple design with a horizontal layout and very efficient use of space. The instruments are housed in three chromed ringed pods, nested in clear view through the sporty three-spoke steering wheel. The center stack contains easy-to-reach climate controls and audio system in addition to a covered storage compartment.

A center console, with additional storage features and an ergonomically designed shifter location, flows seamlessly from the instrument panel and defines driver and front-passenger seating areas. Metallic accents on the instrument panel, door panels, steering wheel and other touch points finish off Trazo C1.8's modern look.




The Trazo C1.8 by Dodge will be available with a 1.8-liter DOHC 16-valve four-cylinder gasoline and E100 ethanol-capable engine with both automatic and manual transmissions. The Variable Valve Timing (VVT) powertrain offers fuel efficiency along with fun-to-drive excitement the Dodge brand is known for.

Chrysler and Nissan's OEM Agreement


In January 2008, Chrysler LLC and Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. formed an agreement for Nissan to supply Chrysler with a new car for sale in select Latin American markets. The Trazo C1.8 by Dodge will be supplied to Chrysler by Nissan on an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) basis in mid 2009.

The OEM supply agreement is the second product exchange between Chrysler LLC and Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. Nissan affiliate JATCO has been supplying Chrysler with transmissions for various front-wheel-drive vehicles since 2004. The two companies have also agreed to maintain an open dialogue to explore further product-sharing opportunities.

Hybrid Fest: World's Biggest Hybrid and Green Car Show

Next weekend in Madison, Wisconsin, hundreds of green car lovers will gather together at an event called HybridFest in order to check out new technology from the green automotive industry.

The show activities officially start on Saturday, but Friday afternoon there will be a hybrid car MPG challenge to whet everyone's taste for the future of high
fuel economy vehicles.



However, HybridFest isn't just about high MPG and hybrids -- it's more about the future of the automotive industry. This year the show will feature everything from big automakers Toyota and GM showing off their wares to homespun biodiesel makers and ecomodders like myself.

There will also be speakers on a wide range of green car topics, including the featured talk on
plug-in hybrids and the quest for 100+ MPG production vehicles.

Personally, I'm attending under two separate sets of auspices. Firstly, I will be an interested participant looking forward to things like the hybrid car test drives and speeches for tech buffs.

Secondly, I will be there as a representative from my site, showing my car and talking about ecomodding as a way to conserve without chucking your old car.

Volkswagen Scirocco GT24 Race-tuned Concept World Premiere

News from KLAGENFURT, Austria, that the Volkswagen Scirocco GT24 Concept is "much more than a styling exercise," the German automaker wowed the enthusiast crowd at Wörthersee on Thursday with the world premiere of its new race-tuned cult car.







The VW Scirocco GT24 concept is based on the shell of the Scirocco racecar and wears VW Racing Blue livery.

Although the company notes that "many components are carried over from the road car — a testament to their strength," the dimensions vary considerably.

"Even wider, even longer and even lower," said Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, VW chairman for development, in a statement.

For the record, the Scirocco GT24 gains 8.9 inches in length and 2.4 inches in width (to accommodate a wider track), while ride height drops 3.0 inches.

The concept is powered by a race-tuned 2.0-liter four-cylinder TSI engine that churns out 321 horsepower.

The engine is linked to a six-speed DSG gearbox. The concept rides on 18-inch lightweight racing wheels.

The cabin gets Recaro bucket seats in front, a unique steering wheel and a fire extinguisher.

Set into a carbon panel are toggle switches to control the ABS settings, as well as electrical and ventilation systems.

2008 Philadelphia International Auto Show Coverage

Black Tie Gala, Food, Booze, The New Audi A4 and Miss America

After a very long week in the office, I was looking forward to a relaxing Friday night with my girlfriend. I had been talking to a few of my co-workers and one of them mentioned they were going to the Philadelphia Auto Show's Black Tie Gala event that evening. Having lived in the area for the last couple of years, it was something I always wanted to do.

The reason I hadn't gone in the past is because the price tag for the event was rather steep - $200 for the evening. Seemingly every year the price had gone up, and for whatever reason I just dealt with general admission to the venue. Over the past few years I'd grown weary of car shows being mobbed by people to the point where you really couldn't get a good look at anything for more than a few seconds, as people would shuffle you out of the way for their 10 second chance to glimpse an exotic auto.

Taking a picture was impossible as well, because even if you had enough space to take one someone would walk into your path. This brings me to another point: anything really worth looking at is completely roped off from the general public.

I left the office that day and I told my co-worker to let me know how the event west, as I had explained to him (and now to you) my gripes with past auto shows. On the way home I was enjoying the fact that the week was over and looking forward to my vacation the following week. I then received a text message from my girlfriend and based on an unforeseen family obligation my Friday night suddenly freed up completely.

As luck would have it I was still able to get my hands on a last minute ticket, so I drove home to get suited up for a fun night ahead.

Not wanting to leave my S4 at the mercy of the local parking lot attendants I wisely took the train to the Philadelphia convention center. I also didn't realize the event would also include an open bar for the night. In retrospect it was quite fortunate that I took the train.

I arrived at the event and I was one of the first few people in the door at 7pm on the dot. I figured that the allotted four hours would provide plenty of opportunity to see everything.


The B8 Audi A4

Knowing full well that Audi and the exotics were off on their own floor at the Philadelphia Convention Center, I figured I would head there first. To give you an idea how empty the place was, I'll say that there were more people ready to dust off cars then were people to look at them.

Audi's roped off area included the 2009 A4. At last year's event this same spot was occupied by the R8, but this year the R8 was out on floor duty. Since we were at a true Black Tie Gala they had setup a little step that one could use to walk up onto the display to check out the car.

I actually got the only true preview of this car, as some of the Audi show people freaked out and promptly locked up the car while I was standing there. However, before that happened I managed about two minutes on the inside to check out all the new controls and gadgets. I also popped the hood and the trunk to check out the improvements over the outgoing B7 model.

To be brief, if you want to see what the new A4 cockpit is like then check out the Audi A5 / S5 at your local dealer. From the cockpit perspective the cars are nearly identical. The steering wheel is lifted from the B7 and includes paddle shifters mounted to the back of the wheel (later in the evening it was humorous to hear a Nissan GTR onlooker gripe about Nissan column mounted paddles on its new halo car).


The new LCD screen in the center of the gauge cluster is very easy on the eyes. The MMI and other items were not powered up in the car so I missed the full experience. If it's anything like the MMI setup in the S5 it should be fine. The new speedometer was fun to look at and has a very optimistic 180 printed at the other end of the dial.

Regrettably most of us will never legally see the dial rise past a third of the way up. It's a very good thing Audi has added an electronic speed readout to the center display since it would be very hard to keep an eye on the speedometer on secondary roads.

I remember first seeing the electronic speed paired with analog dial speed on the 996 Porsches which included analog speedometers in 25mph increments. What I would like to see integrated into the center display is oil temperature, boost levels and other vital information that true car junkies could utilize. Being able to scroll through your MP3 list would be nice too. Maybe even steal a page from Buggati and give us an electronic horsepower usage meter. The car tracks all the data, so it only becomes a matter of outpoint at some point.

The back seats do appear to have more space then the outgoing B7. I wouldn't call it a night and day difference, but rear passengers will appreciate the extra space. The seats are also very comfortable. While they're not as good as the Recaros found in the current S4, they appear to be a significant improvement over the B7 A4 seating.

Under the hood it looks like a standard Audi layout. Battery and brake master cylinder are found behind the engine bay in the cowl, though it does appear as if they've moved the engine coolant bottle up closer to the front. I suppose the other big changes are that they ditched the dual strut hood supports in favor of one perhaps for weight reduction.

In addition the washer fluid bottle has been relocated to the cowl from its current location closer to the ABS brick. After quickly looking over the new A5 I would have to say the cars are nearly identical up to the B pillar. Engine layout and the way the other components all come together appear nearly identical. From an engineering perspective as well as a financial perspective this is very wise of Audi. Essentially they're supporting two models with very similar identities.


I also had a chance to look at the trunk area, and those who loved the hinged design and the mini trunk struts will be disappointed with Audi's move back to a more reliable spring and arm system. The spring and arm system is tucked away on the sides, and Audi has done a remarkable job improving the design. Since the trunk arms are very narrow (think of what a banana would look like if you stepped on it), and buried behind the trunk carpets, you'll never have to worry about jamming up the system with an overloaded trunk. Also, since the system uses a plain spring, you'll never have to deal with trunk strut failure again.

When one of those failed on my B6 S4, I realized how heavy the trunk really is. Trunk space appears to be similar to the current A4, but without a measuring tape I cannot really say if there is a gain or loss. The purpose of the switch to the strut and hinge design on the B5 A4 was to gain trunk space and it appears they finally have the best of both worlds.

The wheels and brake system also looks improved. I noticed some changes to the rotor shields, as they appear to be modified for better cooling. I will let someone more informed then myself weigh in on that topic.

Overall, the B8 is a great improvement on the B6/B7 chassis. It's not as drastic of a departure as the B6 was to the B5; rather, it is more of an evolution in the design. I like it a lot and look forward to the future S4 offering from Audi (I'm crossing my fingers for a twin turbo V6).


Audi also brought along an R8 in white with silver door blades. They also had an A3 in Sprint Blue. This shade of blue was attracting a lot of attention from a girl who also had a similarly colored blue dress who posed with her family for a photo. The usual Audi line up with the A8, A6, and Q7 were on site as well.

Miss America

Those of you who know the Philadelphia Auto Show layout know that the upper floor is where Audi, Jaguar, Infinity, and the exotics are displayed (by exotics I mean Maserati, Lamborghini, Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Aston Martin).

Since this is a smaller auto show the exotic manufacturers typically don't show up. Instead, a local dealer, FC Kerbeck, has stepped in to bring out the full offering. Normally, this area has a wall around it and no one can get in save reporters and people with whom the dealer is familiar. The night of Gala, however, it is open to everyone.

After I finished looking at the Audi's I checked out the exotics. Even at that point no one was really in the area checking out the cars. As I was feverishly snapping away pictures of Bentleys and Lamborghinis I noticed a very attractive young lady with a crown on her head. My inner voice said, who the f@#$ does she thinks she is, Miss America?

I continued to take photos of the cars and moved closer to where this woman was standing with the people from FC Kerbeck. I struck up a conversation with them about Corvettes. For those of you who do not know, aside from an exotic cars dealership, FC Kerbeck owns a Corvette-only dealership in Atlantic City.

After some car talk, I found out the young lady with the crown actually was the newly crowned Miss America, Kristen Haglund. I chatted with her for a bit. Kerbeck wanted some photos with her and the new Corvette ZR1 since she was from the Detroit area of Michigan. I think the Kerbeck folks' pitch was "two beauties from Detroit". The idea seemed appropriate.


Kristen was very nice and very approachable. I congratulated her on her win, and talked about watching the reality show where all the Miss America contestants competed against each other.

Normally I would be tuned into BBC's Top Gear, but occasionally my girlfriend puts me in "Park" and changes the channel (hence why I knew anything about the show). It seems Kristen was only a week or so into her tour as Miss America, and I wished her all the best with her brutal travel and appearance schedule. The only thing I could equate to her job is perhaps what a professional athlete on the road endures. They are in the limelight, as they chose to be; only she does not need to throw a football or have a hundred-mile-an-hour slap shot.

Instead, she has an image to live up to and must conduct herself as Miss America at all times. I would not want a job like that for more than a few weeks, let alone a year. According to Kristen, her travel schedule for appearances for the next year will average around 20,000 miles a month.

Back to the Cars

Kerbeck brought out some wonderful exotics for the show. Among the more notable was the Rolls-Royce Drophead Coupé. I took a video of them dropping the top on the car. Simply put, it's gorgeous.

Annoyingly, since BMW owns Rolls-Royce, it includes the same accessory start chimes as a 7-series. The rear deck on the trunk is made of teak, similar to the would-be owner's yacht. In addition, since it is equipped with suicide doors, you can flick a switch near the A-pillar and not be bothered with closing the door, as the car does it for you. The hood features a two-tone look, with the center of the hood finished in brushed aluminum.

The glass on the car is also double paned, and I could see the panes of glass sandwiched together at the edges.

The Orange and Lime Lamborghini Gallardos were very nice as well. If you are going to go Lamborghini, loud is the only way to go. The cars also included the RNS-E navigation system that most of the B7 owners are familiar with, and a backup camera integrated into the spoiler. Very nice touch since backing into something with a Lamborghini would not only be embarrassing, but also expensive.


I wandered downstairs and checked out the Mercedes SLR convertible. I suppose some cars, no matter what, will be roped off. Either way, that thing looked nuts, and I liked it. I then wandered over to the Chevy area to check out Motown's newest creation, the ZR1. It looks like GM did their homework on this car.

It has a lot of carbon fiber bits everywhere, and you can tell the design team spent a lot of time doing wind tunnel testing. In addition, it features pizza-pie-size carbon ceramic disc brakes.

Supposedly, they are 15.5" (393mm) in the front and 15" (381mm) in the rear. GM is finally doing what folks at Lingenfelter Performance Engineering have been doing for years: bolting on superchargers for big power gains. GM ultimately took it to a level that only the creator could do, by making the roof and b-pillars out of carbon fiber. As often as people say a Corvette is too common, this supercar will be uncommon and will certainly live up to the ZR1 badge on the back.


I then moved on to the Nissan where there was a nice Japanese-spec GTR sitting on stage. I talked shop with the Nissan rep about the GTR, and later revisited it again with some of my friends. One thing I will say; those who believe that the GTR is ugly have never seen it in person.

This is honestly one of the best things to come out of Japan since the original Sony Playstation. Forget the STI or the new Evo - this is the car to have if you are looking for an AWD monster from the Far East. Photos do not do this car justice. See it in person and your attitude will likely change.

It is a shame their dealer network has treated potential customers in a negative way. I have heard all kinds of horror stories of dealers that are not even getting GTR's taking deposits and screwing with potential customers' heads.

It is a great car, but it may not be worth the headache until they are actually here in full production (as opposed to their trickle-in start this summer). Also, be ready for markups over MSRP in percentages that will rival, if not surpass, what some are trying to do on the Audi R8. The GTR is a special car, but some parts of the dealer network are far from special.

Finally, I checked out Porsche and Lotus on the lower level. I still love the Elise and Exige. They are the perfect track weapon and a total hoot to drive, if you can fit into one. Two of the guys that were with me couldn't find a way in, and since I've driven one before I knew exactly how to fold myself up to get in the driver's seat. We also took a bunch of pictures with all of us at the wheel of a car with drinks in our hands.

The food served at the Gala was phenomenal. They had sea bass that was cooked to perfection and literally fell apart on your plate. Also, there were Kobe beef burger shooters, a must have for the non-vegetarians.

The mayor of Philadelphia was there too (I think he made a speech that I missed). If you think about it, a nice dinner with dessert at a Center City Philadelphia restaurant can easily cost around $60 per person. Drinks at the bar would have to set you back at least $40. Normal tickets for the auto show are $12 at the door.

In addition, $98 of your $200 goes to CARing for Kids Foundation as a charitable donation (and tax write-off), a major selling point to your other half (if you happen to be a male trying to sell this expensive night out to your wife or girlfriend). Most women like to dress up to go out, and if you have to be forced into such an activity, this is a perfect excuse (not to mention that you will be looking at some of the coolest cars on the planet). To me it is a win, win situation and I look forward to going next year.

The only thing I would do different is I would stay in a hotel that night downtown. I had to pass on several invites to what were rumored to be some pretty crazy after parties thrown by dealership owners.

To summarize, if you live in the Philadelphia area and plan to visit the auto show this year, by all means go. Next year, pony up the cash for the Black Tie Gala. It is definitely worth the experience.

2008 British International Motor Show Official: Mercedes-Benz

The 2008 British International Motor Show is due to open in three months at July, and in 2006, Mercedes-Benz used its stand at the British International Motor Show to launch Mercedes-Benz World and in 2008 the experience will feature again.

Dubbed by many as the "motor show every day of the year", Mercedes-Benz World has seen over 440,000 guests pass through its doors since it was opened in October 2006.

Over 15,000 children have enjoyed their first taste of driving thanks to the Kid’s Driving Experiences programmes which allow kids to drive in a brand new Mercedes-Benz on the original surface of the hallowed Brooklands Circuit - if they’re tall enough to reach the pedals.

Visitors to the 2008’s motorshow will be able to see another stand for Mercedes-Benz World and Gordon Freshwater, corporate events manager at Mercedes-Benz UK wants to see as many people at the event as possible.

"But if they can’t make it to London, people can see our latest models and services at their local retailer. As well as Mercedes-Benz World at Brooklands we’ve over 150 state-of-the-art facilities all over the country, and of course they’re open year-round," he added.

2008 Beijing International Auto Show Opening Today

The world's top car-makers descended on China in force Sunday for the eight-day Beijing Auto Show 2008, which is expected to attract up to 600,000 prospective buyers.

Top manufacturers are hoping to cash in on China's booming market which rose by 20 percent to 1.85 million vehicles in the first quarter of 2008 as sales around the world slumped, organisers said.

Nearly 900 cars will be on display at this year's show with car-makers rolling out their newest models, including environmentally friendly hybrid and electric vehicles, they said.

Big-name companies like General Motors, Volkswagen, Ford and BMW have announced new plans to expand facilities in China to meet growing demand and further localise production.

General Motors is aiming to raise its China sales by 50 percent over the next three years with new products to feed increasing private demand, GM China group president Kevin Wale said.
The automaker will continue to invest one billion dollars annually in product development, advanced technologies and capacity expansion in China, he told journalists.

GM plans to launch its first hybrid model, the Buick LaCrosse, in China before the
Beijing Olympics in August, and the hybrid Cadillac Escalade in the first half of 2009, said Wale.

The US car-maker sold a record 1.03 million vehicles in China last year, up 18.5 percent from 2006, leading the local market for the third consecutive year.

Volkswagen China CEO Winfried Vahland told reporters the German auto giant hoped to reclaim its place as China's market leader by breaking the one million sales-mark this year.

Volkswagen, which entered China as the first foreign car-maker here in 1985, moved 910,500 vehicles in the country last year, up 28 percent.

Meanwhile, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Bentley, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Maserati, Aston Martin, Porsche and Rolls-Royce were all exhibiting in the hopes of capturing a slice of China's growing
luxury car market.

Analysts forecast that both China's auto output and sales will continue to expand at double-digit rates in 2008 to 10 million vehicles as the economy grows rapidly. The show opens to the public on Tuesday and closes on April 28.

2008 Beijing Auto Show: Ford Five-Seat S-MAX Trend

The five-seat version Ford S-Max, the 2007 European Car of the Year of Ford, is announced by Ford to be unveild at this month's 2008 Beijing Motor Show starting at 19th.

Dubbed the Ford S-Max Trend, the people mover will lose its third row seating to expand cargo room and lower the MPV's overall price.

“The S-MAX is spacious, safe and convenient but not everyone needs seven seats," Nigel Harris, General Manager of Changan Ford Sales Company, told WorldCarFans.

"Introducing a five-seat variant to the S-MAX range makes perfect sense and illustrates Ford's ability to provide Chinese customers with cars and features they want."

The S-Max Trend will offer buyers an extra 6.5 cubic feet of cargo space, compared to the seven passenger version. Power for the S-Max Trend will be sourced from Ford's 2.3L four-cylinder, producing 157 horsepower and 151 lb-ft or torque.

fourth concept car in the Nagare design series, Mazda Taiki, further evolves the "flow" theme to establish a breathtaking presence that clearly defines its Nagare credentials, and visually expresses the atmosphere - called taiki in Japanese - that wraps the Earth in its protective mantle.

Centering around the performance rotary engine sports packaging that is synonymous with the Mazda name, technologies introduced for the Mazda Taiki include the next-generation RENESIS (rotary engine 16X, refer to book separate volume for details), which sets new standards for environmental and driving performance, a front-engine rear-wheel-drive layout, unique 2-seat configuration, and others which convey an image of lightness.

The flow of air as a design concept

The challenge to create "a design that visually expresses the flow of air" was inspired by the image of a pair of Hagoromo - the flowing robes that enable a celestial maiden to fly in Japanese legend - floating down from the sky.

The basic proportions begin with the stretched coupe form of a front-engine rear-wheel -drive layout, the short overhangs, and the liberating feel of the all-glass canopy, which combine to express a harmony of elegance and sportiness.

The lower of the layered hagoromo flows from the front fenders to the sides, where it wraps under the body and gracefully curves up at the rear.

The other hagoromo flows from the hood through the shoulder lines it etches, past the unique independent rear fender design, and lends a seductive curve to the rear deck.

The fusion of these flowing upper and lower surfaces not only creates a visual depiction of flowing air, it also minimizes body volume for a trim, well-toned appearance, as well as creating a sense of floating lightly on air.

This sensation is further amplified by the Ozonic Silver paint that was specially developed for this project.

The outer panels of the doors that open widely toward the front form a relief that symbolizes the accelerating flow of air actually experienced by the designer during wind tunnel tests.

New York 2008: Kia KOUP Concept

NEW YORK, March 20, 2008 – Combining youthful exuberance with a sporty and sleek design, Kia Motors America (KMA) today globally debuted the KOUP concept at the 2008 New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) during a press conference at the Jacob K.Javits Convention Center.

Illustrating the shape and evolution of future Kia vehicles, the simple yet bold and aggressive KOUP exterior is complemented by its realistic and sleek interior design.

Originating from the
Kia Motors America Design Center in Irvine, Calif., the KOUP concept embodies Kia's philosophy of "Exciting and Enabling" with its balanced proportions and fluid design set to evoke an emotional driving experience.



New York 2008: Kia Koup concept unveiled

Curb appeal begins with the KOUP's balanced proportions and fluid design. From the tab-shaped and purposeful upper grille to the high-tech and pragmatic headlamps, the front fascia's form gives the vehicle a bold and aggressive stance.

The KOUP features an uncomplicated yet dynamic wedge shape along its sides stemming from its glowing, carbon fiber and black chrome enhanced LED lamp lenses.

While the KOUP's overall form is simple and precise, it makes a design statement with positive tension created by a "swoosh" that swoops from the "C" pillar forward, down to the "A" pillar and flares all the way back around to the rear deck lid.

A trailing horizontal lip along the deck lid tapers up toward the outer ends to meet up with the swoosh from the beltline. The rocker sill has a distinctive "check mark" shape and prominent wheel flares that give the KOUP a strong, lowered stance.

The short overhangs and wide stance reflect its well-balanced and responsive character.

No element of high-style design is missing in the KOUP concept as illustrated by its greenhouse-integrated, panoramic-view glass with two panels extending from the windshield through the roof to the backlight, appearing as two parallel pieces of glass – similar to a fighter jet cockpit.

Segregating the glass panels, an interior mood light runs the full length of the greenhouse.

2008 New York Auto Show: Milner AirCar

Have u dream of flying on the sky with your car? No matter you do or not, it will not be a dream, actually, the Milner AirCar is as real as it gets.

The AirCar, designed by Milner Motors, will be a completely self-contained four-door, four to five-seat advanced-composite road-able aircraft (flying car) with foldable main wing in the rear of the vehicle and a canard in the front.


The Milner AirCar will be able to cruise at speeds of 200 MPH for up to 100 miles, thanks to one or two engines with propellers or ducted fans producing 300 total HP. When not flying, the vehicle will be powered by a separate 40 HP Engine.

The wings fold down so it can operate on roads and and it will be the size of a
Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic.

2008 New York Auto Show: Milner AirCar


If you’re interested in this, you can get a first glance at it at the 2008 New York Auto Show (March 21-30). The estimate price is $450,000, but you won’t be able to buy one for a while, as the aircraft needs to be certified for commercial production first.

Suzuki Equator features a fuel efficient 2.5-liter DOHC inline four with 152 horsepower and 171 lb.-ft. of torque or an optional 4.0-liter, V6 DOHC engine producing a class-leading 261 hp with 281 lb.-ft. of torque.

2009 Audi A4 Avant of 2008 Geneva

After showing off the new-for-2009 A4 in Frankfurt, Audi has finally released the details about for its A4 Avant prior to its debut in 2008 Geneva Motor Show start yesterday, with the first U.S. deliveries to begin this fall.

“This is a vehicle I know our designers would dearly love to see go into production, but for the moment it has to remain a concept only,” GM Holden Chairman and Managing Director Mark Reuss said.

Essentially a two-door version of the VE Commodore, the Holden Coupe 60 concept car could easily be put into production, but GM insists there are no firm plans just yet.

Although the Holden brand only exists in Australia, the Commodore sedan is imported to America as the Pontiac G8, which opens the door to obvious that a the Coupe 60 could eventually come here as well.

We all think that the Land Rover LRX Concept looked good in white at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show, but Land Rover is seek to update the concept at the coming 2008 Geneva Motor Show, where the second, black-and-silver LRX Concept will be showed. Details as below release press:

A striking black and silver version of Land Rover's acclaimed LRX cross-coupe concept makes its global debut at the 78e Salon International de l'Automobile, alongside the original white LRX revealed earlier to widespread acclaim (at NAIAS, Detroit, in January ).

"With its metallic black paintwork, silver roof and precisely detailed exterior features, the second version of the LRX concept is designed to show how well the vehicle can deliver a contemporary example of personalisation," says Gerry McGovern, Land Rover's design director.

"The LRX concept already has an abundance of character, but you can tune the appearance to reflect a customer's own personality and lifestyle. Clever use of colour and subtle additional details enable the vehicle to be tailored to suit an individual's style, without compromising the clean design of the LRX," he adds.

No production plans have been confirmed yet for the Land Rover LRX concept, and both versions will now be used to gauge public, dealer and media response to Land Rover's cross-coupe concept, as well as its interesting new opportunities for vehicle personalisation.

"We were hugely excited by the positive response that the original LRX concept generated when we showed it at the Detroit Show a few weeks ago," says Phil Popham, managing director of Land Rover.

"But we've always seen scope for LRX to provide a whole showroom of different models, with a range of powertrains including hybrids and bio-fuel capable engines."

Using lightweight material technologies, Land Rover has developed a series of bespoke features for the black and silver LRX that add to the vehicle's individuality and flexibility.

The removable carbon composite roof panel contrasts with the silver-coloured roof, and has integral anchor points for fixing snowboards and other sports equipment.

The sleek black roof bars provide another option for roof-top loads, and a compact step above the rear bumper provides for easy roof-top access. More carbon composite is used for the protective underbody plates at front and rear, while new, lightweight alloy wheels with unique-design tyres signal purposefulness.

And to protect the vehicle when the going gets tough - in either urban or off-road situations - there are smart, resilient mouldings on bumpers and sills.

"The black and silver LRX shows a real world breadth of capability. Its all-terrain ability, extra protection and load-carrying versatility help emphasise that it's an authentic Land Rover, while its compact dimensions, agile handling and efficient powertrain make it a practical proposition for everyday driving," says Phil Popham.

2008 Cleveland Auto Show: Chevrolet Cobalt SS

The 2008 Cleveland Auto Show is to start at Saturday, and the Chevrolet Cobalt SS, along with the first interactive ride-and-drive exhibits at any auto show in the nation, will join 1,000 new vehicles, concepts, tuners and classics at the show at the I-X Center, organizers announced.

General Motors Corp. will feature the SS — a souped-up version of the small car built at its Lordstown Complex — along with a Cadillac hybrid mockup and the Chevrolet Camaro Bumblebee from the “Transformers” movie.

Also among the highlights will be vehicles owned by Cleveland sports stars LeBron James and Braylon Edwards, including James’ 2007 Maybach 57s, valued at $410,000, and Edwards’ 2007 customized supercharged Range Rover, valued at $125,000.

2008 Geneva Motor Show Preview: Saab 9-1X Concept

Three weeks before the 2008 Geneva Motor Show, General Motors (GM) has already officially announced that Saab will have the world premiere of an entirely new concept car at the Geneva Auto Show 2008.

The new
Saab 9-1X Concept means GM's further step in its continuing product range extension.

Though GM hasn’t released any specific details on the concept, we have been informed that it will be the 9-1X. Today, Saab attempted to enlighten us furthermore by uploading a teaser image of the concept on its official site. Unfortunately, the blacked out image doesn’t allow us to make any assumptions at all on the concept’s appearance.

The 9-1X previews Saab’s forthcoming premium compact hatch that will compete against the
BMW 1-Series, Audi A3 and Volvo C30 models. It will be based on the Opel Astra architecture, with engine options including a 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol units.

2008 Geneva Auto Show: Ford Mondeo, S-MAX, Galaxy

FORD EXTENDS LARGE CAR RANGE WITH NEW HIGH PERFORMANCE DIESEL ENGINE AND ADDED SERIES

  • Powerful new 175 PS 2.2-litre Duratorq TDCi performance diesel engine for Ford Mondeo, Ford S-MAX and Ford Galaxy
  • Expressive new Titanium S series extends Mondeo and S-MAX customer choice
  • New 'techno' style Galaxy Titanium model complements the classic Ghia series at the top of the range

Ford Mondeo, S-MAX and Galaxy customers now have even greater powertrain and series choices with the launch of a new high performance 2.2-litre diesel engine and sporty new versions of the popular 'Titanium' series.

Developed for performance, the new 2.2-litre Duratorq TDCi is the largest displacement and most powerful diesel engine available in Ford of Europe's passenger cars. It gives a sustained 400 Nm of torque at 1,750rpm and 420 Nm of transient overboost provides the necessary power for brisk and confident overtaking manoeuvres. Maximum power of 175 PS is delivered at just 3,500rpm.

The engine has been developed and engineered by Ford and PSA Peugeot Citroën as part of the longstanding co-operation on diesel engines between the two companies. In its first applications with Ford, the engine has been specifically calibrated to provide performance, quietness and smoothness of operation in the company's large and luxury models – new Mondeo, Galaxy, and S-MAX.

"Exceptional quality and reliability are an accepted fact when it comes to our powertrains and this new engine is no exception," explained Nick FitzGerald, Chief Programme Engineer, Large and Luxury Products, Ford of Europe. "The power and torque available is equivalent to a much larger gasoline engine, but in diesel form gives improved like-for-like fuel economy."

New Unique Features
Delivering 400 Nm of peak torque – with a transient overboost of 420 Nm – the engine boasts two new features that are unique to this engine in the Ford line-up: A third-generation common rail and the turbo system with specifically-calibrated pedal mapping.

Third-generation common rail
This high-tech engine features Bosch piezoelectric injectors with seven-hole nozzles which use multiple injection capability and up to 1,800 bar of injection pressure.

Like other diesel engines in the Mondeo, S-MAX and Galaxy ranges, the diesel injection combustion process of the 2.2-litre provides five injections per combustion stroke. The time lapses between each injection are controlled electronically depending on the rpm and engine load, engine temperature and air intake temperature.

This combustion process enhances the premium feel of the vehicle, as it makes the engine very refined by reducing noise and vibration.

Turbo system and pedal mapping
A variable-geometry turbo ensures good efficiency and throttle response. Pedal map sensors that are specifically calibrated give the driver a sensitive and responsive throttle pedal feel, which contributes to an easy and convenient driving experience. The turbocharger is calibrated to offer superb responsiveness at low revs and seamless acceleration under part load conditions.

Good responsiveness at low revs contributes to good control in parking and manoeuvring situations. As the engine is switched off a throttle shut-down system lessens any vibration.

Performance and Emissions
The performance of this engine is demonstrated by its target acceleration figures; all Ford models using this engine can reach 100 km/h from a standing start in less than ten seconds.

A fully optimised combustion system also contributes to reduced emissions. The Mondeo, S-MAX and Galaxy models using this engine respectively emit 165, 176 and 179 g/km of CO2. "Given the power and torque, and therefore the acceleration of this engine, these figures are very reasonable indeed," said FitzGerald

The 2.2-litre Duratorq TDCi engine is a Euro IV compliant engine equipped with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) which is designed and manufactured for zero-maintenance.

Uniquely, in Ford Motor Company products, the engine is equipped with an 'intelligent oil condition monitoring algorithm'. The system was developed by Ford engineers and is designed to ensure that the engine oil is maintained at optimal performance levels. An information lamp in the instrument cluster illuminates when the system recommends that the oil should be removed and replaced.

This useful driver feedback is designed to give superior engine reliability and durability by tailoring the maintenance of the engine oil to the car's use. This is coupled to a 'variable' service interval of up to one year or 20,000km. Full technical specifications can be seen in the Technical Data section.

Sound Quality and Vibration
The best possible Sound Quality and Vibration (SQ&V) is an important aspect of all Ford powertrains and the new 2.2-litre diesel engine is no exception. The engine is fitted with balancing shafts to further diminish vibration.

Paired with Ford's acclaimed 6-speed Durashift manual transmission, this combination offers a powertrain with lots of torque – maximum 400 Nm at 1,750rpm – something that contributes to relatively few gear shifts and reduced driver fatigue.

Twin pilot injections for the combustion process simultaneously optimise emissions, fuel economy and play a significant role in reducing the conventional noise of a diesel engine to contribute to the most pleasant acoustic behaviour.

"Conventional diesel technology is by no means dated thanks to the actions we take in developing the engines and calibrating them specifically to our range. Many drivers like the familiarity that a diesel engine gives them with the combined fuel economy, long service life and reliability and modern refinements in our portfolio where this engine will be available," explained Phil Lake, Chief Engineer, Powertrains, Ford of Europe.

Joint Ford and PSA Peugeot CitroënDevelopment
"The development of this engine has joined the skills, experience and techniques of engineers from
Ford Motor Company and PSA Peugeot Citroën to achieve high goals and objectives for this engine," said Steve Adams, Ford of Europe's Vehicle Line Director for Large and Luxury cars.

"Thanks to the utilisation of system engineering, and modern digital simulation, a team comprising 200 people from both companies have developed the engine in just three years. A further 300 people are now assigned to the production of this engine."

New Sporty Titanium S series for Mondeo and S-MAX
The Mondeo and S-MAX ranges have been expanded by the introduction of a new sporty Titanium S model. Based on the highly specified Titanium models, new features and elements have been added to give both cars even greater styling presence and a highly sporty character.

"The 'Titanium' series features and styling details complement perfectly the 'kinetic design' elements of both vehicles, and with over 50 per cent of customers ordering this series, we know it is a success," said Adams. "Now, with the sporty Titanium S we have added more overt styling elements and features to create a new and individual series derivative."

Exterior Styling
The Titanium S series is available on new Mondeo five-door and wagon bodystyles plus the S-MAX.

A standard, full body styling kit gives the vehicles a unique and sporty look. Side skirts and a rear spoiler are a standard feature on the S-MAX and are now offered as an option on Mondeo, and are finished in body colour.

The lower trapezoidal front grille situated in the body-coloured front bumper skirt has a lower grille frame in a contrast colour of silver or anthracite, depending on the body colour. The upper and lower grilles of the Mondeo Titanium S have a unique honeycomb design for series differentiation.

A new front fog lamp kit also features bezels – on the Mondeo Titanium S models – in the contrasting shades. The body-coloured rear bumper skirt incorporates an integrated diffuser in a contrasting shade that surrounds the tailpipe finishers on the exhaust.

Tailored Technology
Standard sports suspension gives a 10 – 15mm lower ride height than the regular suspension, and the set-up is unique, offering more stability over uneven surfaces, less body roll and more direct steering thanks to the use of harder damper settings, stiffer springs and suspension bushes.

The Sports suspension complements the sporty nature and agility of the Titanium S, as do the 18-inch alloy wheels.

For Mondeo Titanium S customers choosing the option of Interactive Vehicle Dynamics Control (IVDC) with Continuously Controlled Damping (CCD), the sports suspension is not required and subsequently not fitted.

Ford's enhanced Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS) is also fitted as standard to Mondeo and S-MAX Titanium S models, and gives the driver the swivelling and cornering headlight functions. Additional Titanium S features have been tailored to each car line; the S-MAX, for example, gains privacy glass while the Mondeo acquires a standard Ford Power start button.

Interior Styling
Soft-touch surfaces to key contact areas and the use of piano black and brushed aluminium surfaces have already become a signature of the high quality materials and craftsmanship of the established Titanium series. With the new Titanium S, further detailed changes to interior components, materials and finishes give the passenger compartments a sporty feel that is characteristic of the new series.

A new 'Carbotex Sport' appliqué is used on the door spears and areas of the instrument panel. Piano black surface areas have been extended forward to surround the multimedia unit and in-car entertainment controls.

The Sports seats are partially trimmed in leather and red thread used in a running stitch frames and divides into sections the seat squab and cushion.

The same red stitching is also applied to the gear shift gaiter, the armrest of the centre console and – for the Mondeo Titanium S – the interior door panels. The leather steering wheel trim has been divided into four areas and the positions where the driver's hands would most naturally fall are finished in a special perforated leather trim which extends around the toggle switches and thumb rests.

Red stitching has been applied to the inner radius of the steering wheel in a substantial diamond design. The interior look is completed by black velour carpet mats that are edged by a red surround.


Further Personalisation
The Titanium S models still leave scope for customers to further personalise their cars through the creation of an 'S Upgrade Pack'. Applicable to both Mondeo andS-MAX Titanium S, customers can select aluminium pedal covers, HID
Bi-Xenon units in place of the AFS headlights and Alcantara seat trim in place of the partial leather.


New Galaxy Titanium
Until now, the most luxurious Galaxy series available is the Ghia. The Galaxy Ghia model features additional chrome exterior styling, a full length overhead centre console and automatic headlights and windscreen wipers.

"Galaxy customers like the layout and technology that the car gives them but they have also been telling us that they like the modern 'techno' and contemporary elements of the successful Titanium series used in the Mondeo and S-MAX," said Adams. "What appeals is the high level of equipment, the unique styling features such as the brushed aluminium finishes, and the driver assistance features like the Ford Convers+ full colour instrument display."

Responding to this customer feedback, a new Galaxy Titanium series is placed at the same high level as the existing Ghia model in the range, and includes the same high levels of standard equipment:

  • Automatic headlights
  • Automatic wipers with rain sensor
  • 'Quickclear' heated front windscreen for most European markets
  • Cruise Control
  • Power operated and heated door mirrors with puddle lamps
  • Rear air conditioning

In addition, the technology and driver assistance features are further enhanced by new styling features; many of which will be familiar from existing 'Titanium' Mondeo and S-MAX models.

The use of brushed aluminium in areas where chrome is used on the Ghia model and machined 5-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels are the key exterior alterations.

Inside the Galaxy Titanium, sports seats finished in Alcantara trim and the integration of privacy glass enhance the interior ambience while the standard fitment of the Ford Convers+ display in the instrument cluster enhances interaction between car and driver.

Ford's Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS) headlights are fitted, equipped with lights that swivel plus additional halogen cornering bulbs. Sports suspension has been added to reinforce the sportier appearance of the exterior styling.

"We believe our customers will appreciate the detail touches made to the interior and exterior of the Titanium S series in our large car range, the availability of the new Galaxy Titanium as well as the performance of the new 2.2-litre Duratorq TDCi 175 PS engine." Said Adams.

2008 Geneva Auto Show: 2008 Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupe

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars will unveil its new Phantom Coupé at the 78th International Geneva Motor Show on Tuesday, 4 March 2008. Production of the new car will start at Goodwood in the summer of 2008.

Rolls-Royce cars. The dynamic drive of the Phantom has always come as a surprise to customers and the Coupé takes it one step further.”

The Phantom Coupé features rear-hinged coach doors which add considerably to the ease of access to the rear lounge seats as well as to the overall aesthetics. Crucially, they aid the overall stiffness of the body as the rear hinged doors allow for an uninterrupted A-pillar helping to make this the most torsionally rigid Rolls-Royce ever. A brushed steel finish of A-pillar and bonnet, as seen for the first time on 100EX, is also available for the Coupé.

At the rear is a spacious picnic boot. A split tail compartment that opens in two parts, gives easy access to 395 litres of space. The lower tailgate also provides a comfortable seating platform for two adults when lowered.

At the core of the Phantom Coupé is an advanced aluminium chassis, perhaps the single most significant component in delivering the marque’s legendary refinement. Lightweight and exceptionally strong, it impacts positively on ride comfort, handling and safety. Hand made, it requires over 130 meters of welding to create each body.

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Chairman and Chief Executive, Ian Robertson, said, “The Coupé has been designed and engineered to be the most dynamic interpretation of our values. Our 2007 sales figures illustrate how successful the entire model range has been with an increase of 25 per cent over the previous year.”
