Mercedes is looking for an increased level of business sales from the new E-class coupe compared to its predecessor the CLK.
The new E-class coupe is expected to start with 40-45% business sales and could rise higher when the 220CDI version is launched in the first quarter of 2010, according to Charles Adkin, Mercedes E-class product executive. The increased business sales split is being made possible by the introduction of the brand’s BlueEfficiency eco-technology that gives the line-up a CO2 start point of 139g/km.
Mercedes is launching the E-class coupe range with six and eight-cylinder engines but will add a four-cylinder 250CDI in August.
When the E220CDI coupe goes on sale next year it is expected to become the biggest seller in the range.
The first quarter of 2010 will also see Mercedes add an estate and convertible E-class.
Meanwhile, Mercedes also expects a 60/40 split in favour of male buyers of the new E-class coupe a direct reversal from its predecessor the CLK.
